Dear Little Sis,

This pandemic has given me a lot of time to get some reading in. I thought I should share exactly what I’ve been reading to help me get through these difficult and often disappointing times. I’m usually a fiction girl, but here lately I’ve enjoyed a few christian novels that have been life changing. These books are sure to get you through the pandemic.

It's Not Supposed to be This Way

If you’ve never read a book by Lysa Terkeurst you need to get a copy right now. She has written a ton of novels for christians regarding some of life’s greatest struggles.

Her book It’s Not Supposed To Be This Way is a must read during the pandemic. Have you found yourself wondering, why did God let this happen? This pandemic has caused us to miss out on a lot of really awesome and fun things, and it can be challenging to see God through those disappointments.

I decided to give this read a try after deciding to start a bible study for college girls who are being faced with a lot of disappointments. I recommend reading this book if you want help in these areas:

  • Stop being pulled into anxiety of disappointments by discovering how to better process unmet expectations
  • Train yourself to recognize the three strategies of the enemy so you can stand strong and persevere through unsettling relationships and uncertain outcomes
  • Discover the secret to being steadfast and not panicking when God actually does give you more than you can handle.
  • Shift your suspicion that God is cruel or unfair to the biblical assurance that God is protecting and preparing you.
  • Know how to encourage friends and help them navigate hard realities with real help from God’s truth.

The Best Yes

This is another wonderful book by Lysa Terkeurst. I frequently find myself re-reading the best parts of this novel. Life can throw a lot of demands our way, and if you’re like me, you strive to always please. Pleasing others means we are often saying yes to things we don’t always have room for.

Lysa explains how to respectfully say no to things we must, and yes to the callings of God. I was able to stop feeling guilty for saying no, and learned how to turn to God when I begin to feel overwhelmed.

Uninvited

I know! I did it again, but if you can’t tell I highly recommend any book written by Lysa. Her books have gotten me through some of life’s biggest struggles. This book is perfect for anyone who is taking social distancing seriously.

I’ve personally struggled with feeling left out when friends go out and I decide to stay home to be safe. Many of my friends who were able to return to campus, while I remain at home has left me sometimes feeling lonely. This is a great read if you’re feeling a bit removed from the world right now!

Live

I haven’t personally read this book by Sadie Robertson, but it’s on my list! She teaches girls how to live fully as God has intended for all of us.

Sometimes it can be difficult to see our true potential, or to understand what our true calling in life is. Sadie really helps break down how we can live life for God. There are so many distractions in the world right now, and a million different excuses we could give ourselves. Those excuses and distractions will never go away, and Live teaches us how to take that step forward.

Dream Big

I highly recommend giving this book a read if you’ve had some big dreams, but are too afraid to go after them. All this down time given to me from quarantine allowed me to finally take the first step in achieving my big dreams.

This book will help you Dream Big, stop giving yourself excuses, and finally get what you want all by remaining close to God. Bob Goff does an amazing job at giving his readers the action steps to achieve our dreams, and he does it from personal experience.

These are the top five christian books I recommend reading during quarantine. They’ll help you reach your full potential in life all while learning to see God when things don’t go as planned. Each of these novels has personally changed my life and I refer back to them frequently!

Happy reading,

Ashley Ardele
